CPS Test

Pick a time, then click inside the box as fast as you can. The timer starts on your first click and your clicks per second (CPS) show when it ends. Most people score 6–7 CPS with normal clicking; 10+ usually takes jitter or butterfly clicking. Your best score for each mode is saved in this browser.

Best (this mode)–

Click speed is all you. The delay between your click and the game reacting is your PC, and that part you can fix.

What is a good CPS?

For a 5 or 10 second test. Expect a 1 second sprint to score a few clicks higher and a 30 second test a few lower.

Clicks per secondWhat it means
Under 5Relaxed clicking.
5–7Typical normal clicking. Most people land here.
8–10Fast. Usually needs jitter clicking (tensing the arm to vibrate the finger).
11–14Very fast. Hard to hold for 10 seconds without butterfly clicking.
15+Butterfly or drag clicking territory (two fingers or friction on the button).

Clicking techniques

  • Normal clicking: one finger, relaxed. Sustainable and accurate; around 6–7 CPS.
  • Jitter clicking: tense the forearm so the finger vibrates on the button. Around 8–12 CPS, tiring over long sessions.
  • Butterfly clicking: alternate your index and middle finger on one button. Around 12–20 CPS on mice that register it.
  • Drag clicking: drag a fingertip across the button so friction makes it bounce. 20+ CPS, very mouse-dependent, and not allowed on some servers.

Fast clicking is a separate skill from fast reacting. To test how quickly you respond to what you see, try the reaction time test.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good CPS score?

Most people click 6–7 times per second with normal clicking. 8–10 CPS is fast and usually takes jitter clicking; 12 or more over 10 seconds is very fast and is typically butterfly or drag clicking. Shorter tests always score higher, because you can sprint for 1 second but not for 30.

What is the average CPS?

Around 6–7 CPS for a 5 or 10 second test with normal clicking. Your score depends a lot on the mouse: a light switch with short travel is easier to click fast than a heavy one.

What are jitter, butterfly and drag clicking?

Jitter clicking tenses your forearm so your finger vibrates on the button (roughly 8–12 CPS). Butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on the same button (roughly 12–20 CPS). Drag clicking slides a finger across the button so friction makes it bounce, registering many clicks per drag (20+ CPS). Some games and servers limit or ban the last two.

Can a CPS test damage my mouse?

Normal clicking will not. Very aggressive jitter, butterfly or drag clicking wears switches faster and can void some warranties, and it can start a "double click" fault earlier where one press registers as two.

Does a higher polling rate increase CPS?

No. Polling rate is how often the mouse reports to the PC (125 to 8000 times a second), which is far above any human click rate. It reduces delay, not click count. Your CPS is limited by your finger and the switch.

Does CPS matter in games?

In Minecraft PvP and some clicker games, yes: more clicks can mean more hits or faster actions, though Minecraft 1.9+ added an attack cooldown. In shooters it barely matters; aim and reaction time count for far more than click speed.
