AION 2 DLSS, FSR and Frame Generation Settings Guide

On this page

In AION 2, start with DLSS Quality (or FSR Quality if your client offers it), keep Vertical Sync off, turn on NVIDIA Reflex, and leave frame generation off unless your base FPS is already smooth. Upscaling raises real FPS and helps in almost every scene; frame generation raises displayed FPS only, which doesn’t help in crowded cities where the CPU is the limit.

Which AION 2 upscaler should I use?

Your GPUUpscalerFrame generation
RTX 40 / 50 seriesDLSS (Quality or Balanced)DLSS Frame Generation available
RTX 20 / 30 seriesDLSS (Quality or Balanced)Not available
AMD RadeonFSR if listed in the Upscaler dropdown, otherwise Resolution ScaleNot through the DLSS option
GTX 10 / 16 series, older GPUsFSR if listed, otherwise Resolution ScaleNot available

Some guides list only DLSS as AION 2’s upscaler while others list FSR as well. Open Settings → Graphics and look at what the Upscaler dropdown offers in your client version; that menu is the final word.

Best DLSS mode for AION 2

ResolutionStart withIf FPS still drops
1080pQualityBalanced
1440pQualityBalanced
4KQuality or BalancedBalanced or Performance

Quality keeps the image closest to native. Use Balanced if crowded cities still dip, and avoid Performance at 1080p, where the internal resolution gets too low to read distant targets cleanly. Set the sharpness slider modestly (guides suggest around 30–50%), and keep NVIDIA Reflex on.

The newest DLSS model is delivered through your driver and the game’s DLSS version, so update your NVIDIA driver before testing; the game’s menu is the supported place to enable it.

Should you use frame generation in AION 2?

SituationFrame generation
Base FPS under 60Off. It adds latency and artefacts to a weak base
Base FPS 60+, single-player questing, high-refresh monitorOn is fine for smoother motion
Crowded cities, dungeons, big Abyss battlesOff. CPU-bound scenes gain nothing real
Competitive PvP or boss mechanicsOff. Added latency, no extra responsiveness
Card with 6 GB or less VRAM at 4KOff. It uses more VRAM and can cause stutter

Frame generation requires an RTX 40 or 50-series GPU and stays greyed out until an upscaler is switched on. For the latency detail, see frame generation input lag explained and DLSS multi frame generation explained.

Known frame-generation problems

  • Crashes on RTX 50-series laptops: reports link DLSS frame generation with G-SYNC to crashes on some configurations. Disable G-SYNC as a test. Full steps in the AION 2 crashing fix.
  • Stutter at 4K: frame generation raises VRAM use; lower Texture Quality a step if usage tops about 95%.
  • Worse feel despite higher FPS: that’s added latency. Turn it off and compare.
  • Competitive / lowest latency: DLSS Quality, frame generation off, Reflex Boost, V-Sync off. See AION 2 lowest input lag settings.
  • Balanced: DLSS Quality, frame generation off, Reflex on, crowd settings lowered.
  • Cinematic on a strong RTX 40/50 card: DLSS Quality plus frame generation, only if base FPS is 60+.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best DLSS settings for AION 2?

Start with DLSS Quality at 1440p and 4K, and drop to Balanced if FPS still falls in crowded cities. Turn on NVIDIA Reflex, keep Vertical Sync off, and set sharpness conservatively since some guides suggest 30–50%. DLSS needs an RTX 20-series or newer GPU.

Does AION 2 support FSR?

Guides disagree on this. Some list FSR as an upscaler option alongside DLSS and recommend it for AMD cards, while others mention only DLSS. Open Settings → Graphics and check the Upscaler dropdown in your client; use FSR there if it appears, and the game's resolution scale if it doesn't.

Which GPUs support frame generation in AION 2?

DLSS Frame Generation requires an RTX 40-series or RTX 50-series GPU, and it stays unavailable until an upscaler is enabled. GTX cards and RTX 20 and 30 series cards can use DLSS upscaling (RTX only) but not the DLSS frame generation option.

Should I turn on frame generation in AION 2?

Only if your base FPS is already stable at 60 or more and you play on a high-refresh display. Frame generation raises displayed FPS but does not reduce CPU load, which is the limit in crowded cities, and it adds some input latency. Keep it off for competitive Abyss play.

Why does AION 2 crash or stutter with frame generation?

On some RTX 50-series laptop configurations, DLSS frame generation combined with G-SYNC has been tied to crashes. Frame generation can also push VRAM past its limit at 4K, which causes stutter. If you see either, disable frame generation or G-SYNC as a test.
