How to Get the Fortnite Pirate Shop Token (Free Item Shop)
Published
On this page
The Fortnite Pirate Shop token is a rare chest drop in the Treasure Hunters mini-season that gives you two 14-day windows of free Item Shop claims. You get it by opening chests in Battle Royale, mainly the skull-and-crossbones Treasure Hunt chests. Then you activate it in the Item Shop with Plunder the Item Shop → Activate Now before December 15, 2026. Epic hasn’t published the drop rate, so the only real strategy is to open more chests per match and play in a squad, because everyone in the squad gets the reward.

Which chests drop the Pirate Shop token
The Pirate Shop token drops from chests in Fortnite Battle Royale during Treasure Hunters. The confirmed source is the new Treasure Hunt chest: a gold-glowing chest marked with a skull and crossbones, usually found inside buildings at named locations on Crossbones Isle. Some coverage says regular loot chests can roll it too, so open every chest you pass, not just the pirate ones.
Coverage so far only mentions Battle Royale. If you mainly play Zero Build or Reload, check whether Treasure Hunt chests spawn in that playlist before you put a whole session into it.
How rare is the Pirate Shop token?
Epic has not published the Pirate Shop token’s drop chance. Community trackers counted fewer than ten reported winners from roughly 30,000–50,000 chests opened on day one. That works out to well under 1 in 1,000 chests. Treat it as a lottery ticket that comes with every chest you were going to open anyway, not something to grind.
You can’t change the odds per chest. What you can change is the number of chests opened per match, and the number of people opening chests for your party.
How to improve your chances
1. Play in a full squad
If one player in your party finds the Pirate Shop token, everyone in that duo, trio, or squad gets Pirate Shop Access. That makes a full four-player squad the best way to play for it, because four players opening chests means roughly four times as many chests opened for the same reward. Split up early, and have each player loot a different building.
2. Land where chests are dense
Pick a named location with several multi-story buildings, and avoid the hot drops where you’ll die before opening two chests. A quiet drop where you open 10–15 chests beats a contested one where you open three. Clear the top floors first, since chests often spawn in attics and upper rooms.
3. Turn on Visualize Sound Effects
Go to Settings → Audio → Visualize Sound Effects and turn it On. Nearby chests then show up as an on-screen icon pointing at their direction, so you stop missing chests hidden behind walls or under floors. Keep Sound Effects volume at 100% so you also hear the chest hum. Our Fortnite audio settings guide covers the rest of the audio setup.
4. Survive long enough to keep looting
Every chest you open after the first fight is another roll. A smooth, high-FPS game helps you win the fights you take while looting. The best Fortnite settings for FPS are a fast way to get there.
Does stretched resolution help you find chests?
Stretched resolution does not raise your chance of getting the Pirate Shop token. Epic rolls the drop on its servers, and every chest uses the same odds whatever your resolution, so 1440×1080 and native 1920×1080 get exactly the same roll.
Stretched res can still help you open more chests in a match:
- More FPS on GPU-limited PCs. 1440×1080 renders about 25% fewer pixels than 1920×1080, so looting, building and rotating between chests feel smoother.
- Bigger-looking targets. Chests, loot and enemy players are stretched wider across the screen, which some players find easier to spot and track up close.
- The trade-off: a 4:3 resolution shows a narrower slice of the world, so you see a little less at the edges of the screen. Turning on Visualize Sound Effects makes up for most of that when you’re hunting chests.
For a manual setup, see our Fortnite stretched resolution guide. The free Tier1Suite app can create the stretched resolution and apply the GPU scaling for you. It also includes Tier1Timer and Windows tweaks that smooth out frame times, so it’s one download for the whole setup.
How to activate the Pirate Shop token
- Once you’ve found the token, finish the match and return to the lobby. A notification confirms you received Pirate Shop Access.
- Open the Item Shop tab.
- Select Plunder the Item Shop (bottom-right corner).
- Select Activate Now. Your 14-day window starts immediately.
- Claim each item you want one at a time. Nothing is added to your locker automatically.
Activate before December 15, 2026, or the first window expires. The second window is for 2027. Because the Item Shop rotates daily, check it every day during your 14 days so you don’t miss items that only appear for a day or two.
What you can and can’t claim
| Can claim for free | Can’t claim |
|---|---|
| Skins (including collab skins in the shop during your window) | Gifts to friends |
| Back blings and pickaxes | Battle Pass levels |
| Gliders and emotes | Starter Packs, Quest Packs and other real-money packs |
| Kicks | More than one Sidekick (and only one you don’t own) |
Pirate Shop Access only covers what is in the Item Shop during your window, so a skin that isn’t in rotation in those 14 days can’t be claimed. If a skin you want is rumored to return, consider saving your second window for it.
Summary
The Pirate Shop token is a very rare Treasure Hunters chest drop that gives two 14-day windows of free Item Shop claims. You can’t improve the odds per chest. You can open more chests by playing in a full squad, landing at chest-dense spots, and turning on Visualize Sound Effects. Stretched resolution won’t change the drop rate, but the extra FPS makes those looting runs smoother.

Frequently asked questions
How do you get the Pirate Shop token in Fortnite?
The Pirate Shop token (Pirate Shop Access) is a rare drop from chests in Fortnite Battle Royale during the Treasure Hunters mini-season, which started on November 1, 2026. The skull-and-crossbones Treasure Hunt chests are the confirmed source, and some players report it from regular chests too. There is no quest or purchase that guarantees it; you just open as many chests as you can.
What are the odds of getting the Fortnite Pirate Shop token?
Epic Games has not published a drop rate for the Pirate Shop token. Community trackers counted fewer than ten reported winners from tens of thousands of chests opened on the first day, so the odds are well under 1 in 1,000 chests. Opening more chests per match and playing in a full squad are the only ways to improve your real chances.
Does the Pirate Shop token work for your whole squad?
Yes. When one player in a duo, trio, or squad opens a chest that drops the Pirate Shop token, every player in that party also receives Pirate Shop Access. A full four-player squad therefore gets four players' worth of chest openings toward the same reward, which is the single biggest way to improve your chances.
What can you get for free with Pirate Shop Access?
Pirate Shop Access lets you claim cosmetics that cost V-Bucks in the Fortnite Item Shop for free, including skins, back blings, gliders, emotes, and kicks, for 14 days after activation. Gifting, Battle Pass levels, and real-money packs such as Starter Packs and Quest Packs are excluded, and you can claim only one Sidekick, which must be one you don't already own.
Does stretched resolution help you find the Pirate Shop token?
No. Stretched resolution does not change the Pirate Shop token's drop chance, because Epic rolls the drop on the server and every chest uses the same odds. What stretched resolution like 1440x1080 can do is raise FPS on GPU-limited PCs, which makes looting and rotating between chests faster. Open more chests, and turn on Visualize Sound Effects so chest icons show up on screen.
