Elden Ring Easy Anti-Cheat Error: How to Fix It

Elden Ring’s Easy Anti-Cheat error almost always means the EAC service is corrupted, blocked, or missing — not that anything is wrong with your save, your account, or your hardware. Easy Anti-Cheat runs as a separate background service from the game, and when its files or permissions break, Elden Ring can’t launch even though the rest of your PC is fine.

This covers the most common Elden Ring EAC failures — “Easy Anti-Cheat is not installed,” error code 30005, and the anti-cheat hanging or crashing on launch — in the order most likely to fix them fast. The steps are the same for the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree, and Nightreign.

1. Run the EAC repair tool directly

This is the first thing to try and it clears most EAC errors without touching the rest of your install.

1. Open your Elden Ring install folder. On Steam that’s usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ELDEN RING\Game\EasyAntiCheat.
2. Right-click EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe and select Run as administrator.
3. Choose Elden Ring in the game dropdown, then click Repair Service.
4. Let it finish, then relaunch the game.

If the repair option fails or the EasyAntiCheat folder is missing, skip to the clean reinstall in step 6.

2. Fix error 30005 (CreateFile failed / EAC can’t launch the game)

Error 30005 means EAC couldn’t open the game’s protected executable — the cause is almost always antivirus, missing permissions, or a corrupted EAC install.

1. Right-click your Steam shortcut → Run as administrator, then launch Elden Ring.
2. If it still fails, open your antivirus and add both the Elden Ring folder and its EasyAntiCheat subfolder as exclusions (see step 3).
3. Then run the EAC repair in step 1. This trio clears the large majority of 30005 errors.

3. Check for antivirus or firewall blocking

Because EAC operates at a low level to detect cheats, security software sometimes flags, quarantines, or blocks it.

1. Open your antivirus and check its quarantine or blocked items list for anything named EasyAntiCheat or start_protected_game.exe.
2. Add both the Elden Ring install folder and the EasyAntiCheat subfolder as exclusions.
3. Temporarily disable third-party firewalls (not Windows Firewall) and test a launch — if it works, add a permanent exception instead of leaving protection off.

4. Delete the corrupted EAC cache in AppData

A single corrupted EAC cache folder can block launches while everything else looks fine. Clearing it forces a clean rebuild.

1. Press Win + R, type %appdata%, press Enter.
2. Open the EasyAntiCheat folder.
3. Delete the subfolders with random alphanumeric names, but leave the GameLauncher folder alone.
4. Relaunch Elden Ring — EAC recreates the folder it needed automatically.

5. Confirm the Easy Anti-Cheat service is running

If the service is disabled and never starts, EAC can’t hook into the game.

1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, press Enter.
2. Find EasyAntiCheat in the list.
3. Right-click → Properties → set Startup type to Manual (the default) or Automatic.
4. Click Start if it isn’t running, then OK.

6. Uninstall and reinstall Easy Anti-Cheat cleanly

For errors that survive everything above, EAC needs a clean reinstall — separate from reinstalling the game.

1. In the EasyAntiCheat folder, run EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe as administrator.
2. Select Elden Ring and choose Uninstall.
3. Reboot your PC.
4. Relaunch Elden Ring — it redeploys EAC on the next start, or rerun the setup file and choose Install.

7. Launch offline to get past a stuck online handshake

If the error only appears when connecting online, you can start the game’s protected executable directly and play offline/seamless-solo while you sort it out.

• Open the Elden Ring Game folder and run start_protected_game.exe directly, or on Steam right-click ELDEN RING → Properties → General and add a launch option to start offline.
• This still runs EAC locally but skips the online step some launch errors get stuck on, so you can confirm the install itself is healthy.

8. Rule out overlays and conflicting software

FPS overlays and RGB/monitoring tools occasionally trip EAC’s process checks.

• Close MSI Afterburner / RivaTuner (RTSS) and Discord’s in-game overlay while testing.
• Close third-party RGB and fan-control software during the first launch after a fix, then re-enable them one at a time if the error returns.
