Marvel Rivals Stretched Resolution Guide: Best Res and Setup

On this page

A lot of Marvel Rivals players run stretched resolution because it widens hero models for easier tracking and, because the game leans on your GPU, it usually buys back some frames too. Marvel Rivals has no built-in stretched mode, so you force it with GPU scaling. This guide covers the best stretched res values and the exact setup so it sticks every launch.

Marvel Rivals Stretched Resolution Guide: Best Res and Setup

Stretched res is a preference, not an aimbot. It is a display setting the anti-cheat is fine with, so test it against native and keep what feels better.

Best stretched resolutions for Marvel Rivals

Base resolutionStretched toAspectFeel
1440 x 10801920 x 10804:3Widest heroes, most FPS gained
1620 x 10801920 x 10803:2Balanced stretch
1728 x 10801920 x 108016:10Subtle stretch, sharper

1440 x 1080 is the popular pick — it produces the widest hero models and renders the fewest pixels, so it tends to give the best frame gain as well.

Step 1 – Create the custom resolution

Marvel Rivals only lists resolutions your system already exposes, so build the stretched res at the GPU level first.

NVIDIA

  1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel → Change resolution.
  2. Click Customize → Create Custom Resolution.
  3. Enter 1440 x 1080 (or 1728 x 1080) at your monitor’s refresh rate.
  4. Test and save.

AMD

  1. Open AMD Software → Settings → Display.
  2. Next to Custom Resolutions, click Create.
  3. Add your chosen base at your refresh rate and save.

Step 2 – Force full-screen GPU scaling (the key step)

Without this, Marvel Rivals shows pillarbox black bars instead of a filled, stretched image.

NVIDIA

  1. NVIDIA Control Panel → Adjust desktop size and position.
  2. Scaling mode: Full-screen.
  3. Perform scaling on: GPU.
  4. Tick Override the scaling mode set by games and programs and Apply.

AMD

  1. AMD Software → Display → GPU Scaling: On.
  2. Scaling Mode: Full Panel.

Step 3 – Apply it in Marvel Rivals

  1. Launch Marvel Rivals → Settings → Display.
  2. Set Display Mode to Fullscreen (Borderless and Windowed will not stretch).
  3. Set Resolution to your custom res (e.g. 1440 x 1080).
  4. Apply, then confirm the image fills the screen.

Because Marvel Rivals runs on UE5, leave NVIDIA Reflex (or AMD Anti-Lag) on and consider upscaling — see the DLSS/FSR notes in our settings guide below.

If you still get black bars

This is the most common issue and it is almost always one of these:

  • Display Mode is Borderless or Windowed — switch to Fullscreen.
  • NVIDIA scaling is on Aspect ratio, or the Override box is unticked.
  • AMD GPU Scaling is off, or Scaling Mode is not Full Panel.
  • Your monitor’s OSD scaling is set to Aspect and is overriding the GPU — set it to Full.
  • A GPU driver update silently reset your scaling — recheck after every update.

Stretched res and Marvel Rivals performance

1440 x 1080 renders roughly a quarter fewer pixels than native 1920 x 1080, so on a GPU-limited setup you should see a real FPS lift on top of the wider models. Pair it with a lower preset and keep Reflex on for the lowest input delay. For the full pass, see Best Marvel Rivals Settings for FPS and Performance.

The best Marvel Rivals stretched resolution comes down to 1440 x 1080 for the widest heroes and most frames, or 1728 x 1080 for a subtler stretch. Create it at the GPU level, force full-screen scaling, set the game to Fullscreen, and the black bars disappear for good.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get stretched resolution in Marvel Rivals?

Marvel Rivals is a UE5 game with no native stretched mode, so you force the stretch at the GPU level. Create a custom resolution such as 1440x1080 or 1728x1080 in NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Software, switch on full-screen GPU scaling, then launch Marvel Rivals and set Display Mode to Fullscreen with that resolution selected. Borderless will leave you with black bars.

Does stretched resolution boost FPS in Marvel Rivals?

Yes, usually. Marvel Rivals is a fairly heavy UE5 title, so dropping from native 1920x1080 to 1440x1080 renders noticeably fewer pixels and frees up GPU headroom. The gain is largest on GPU-limited rigs and stacks with lower graphics presets and DLSS or FSR. The widened hero models are a bonus on top of the extra frames.

Is stretched resolution bannable in Marvel Rivals?

No. GPU scaling is a driver-level display setting and does not touch the game files or inject into the process, so the anti-cheat does not flag it. Players across every rank use custom resolutions safely. It is the same display feature NVIDIA and AMD ship for everyone, not a third-party tool.

What stretched resolution is best for Marvel Rivals?

1440x1080 (4:3) gives the widest hero models and the biggest pixel reduction, which is why most stretched-res players land there. 1728x1080 (16:10) is a milder option that keeps more horizontal detail while still widening targets slightly. Try both against native and keep whichever feels more consistent for your tracking.

Why is Marvel Rivals showing black bars instead of stretching?

Black bars mean the GPU is not overriding the image. Make sure Display Mode is Fullscreen rather than Borderless or Windowed. On NVIDIA confirm scaling is set to Full-screen, performed on GPU, with the Override checkbox ticked. On AMD turn GPU Scaling on and set Scaling Mode to Full Panel. A monitor whose OSD scaling is set to Aspect can also override the GPU.
